Mike Toomey Lobbyist Update: U.S. Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Texas Challenge to Greenhouse Gas Regulations
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has been speaking out against greenhouse gas regulations for a long time, afraid of the job cost and economic impact. Abbott issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court announced this morning that it will hear the State of Texas’ opposing arguments to the Obama Administration’s newest greenhouse gas emissions regulations: “The EPA violated the U.S. Constitution and the federal Clean Air Act when it concocted greenhouse gas regulations out of whole cloth. The EPA’s illegal regulations threaten Texas jobs and Texas employers. As Texas has proven in other lawsuits against the EPA, this is a runaway federal agency, so we are pleased the Obama Administration will have to defend its lawless regulations before the U.S. Supreme Court.” Texas has filed legal challenges against four greenhouse gas regulations. These include the Endangerment Finding, the Tailpipe Rule, the Tailoring Rule and the Timing Rule. Abbott has testified before the U.S. House of Representatives on the issue.
