Texas Best Lobbyist News: Supreme Court to Examine Health Care Act
The United States Supreme Court is currently evaluating a lawsuit brought by 25 states including Texas, claiming that parts of the controversial Patient Protection and Affordable Care act are unconstitutional. The 2010 Act is also knows as “ObamaCare.”
Heated debates have raged over the last two years about federal health care reform laws. These laws were not received well in some states. On the very day the law was signed, Texas and other states filed a lawsuit against the president’s administration, challenging in particular the centerpiece of the Act, which makes individual health care mandatory. Currently this issue has been reviewed in lower courts. Twice it has been upheld and once it has been struck down.

One question being discussed is whether or not the Patient Protection and Affordable Care act could be considered a new tax. If so, this will open all sorts of legal avenues for defense and attack.
