Mike Toomey Texas Lobbyist Update: Court Allows Texas Redistricting Maps
On Friday September 6th, a San Antonio Federal Court made a ruling that there was no substantial basis to block the use of the 2013 redistricting maps. They also ruled that the district maps most recently drafted by the Legislature would be be accepted for use in the 2014 elections. This was announced by a spokesperson for the Texas State Attorney General’s office, Ms. Lauren Bean. The maps were needing to be updated. There has been an exponential population growth in Texas over recent years, and our district maps need to stay in touch with area population changes. As always, there is expected to be some debate over these districting changes, and they will be settled as always in court.
