Mike Toomey 83rd Legislative Session Update: HR 5
House Resolution No. 5 recognizes that January 25th of 2014 is the 175th anniversary of the adoption of the state’s beloved “Lone Star” flag. The bill opts to officially recognize this anniversary and to deem the date fitting for the official record. The current flag was adopted by the state in 1845 when Texas joined the Union. It was designed by Dr. Charles Bellinger Stewart, who was, at the time, a postmaster and pharmacist in Montgomery county. Dr. Stewart was also the first secretary of the state of Texas. This bill celebrates state heritage, and aims to preserve it annually.
