Mike Toomey 83rd Legislative Session Update: SB 495
Senate Bill No. 495 was recently passed on May 17th, 2013. The bill will amend Title #2 of the Health and Safety Code. It plans to create an organization to study maternal mortality and “severe maternal morbidity” within the state. The Department of State Health Services is charged with determining statistical significance in pregnancy related deaths. It will be their job to compile information for the state Legislature. There is no significant fiscal impact expected, on state or local levels. Senate Bill No. 495 will be enacted on September 1st of 2013.
